SHAME-POO ADS

Joey Barton slams England flops, saying Joe Hart should have been doing extra-traning instead of Head and Shoulders adverts

'You see Hart make a mistake like he did at the second goal, then at half-time he's in an advert for shampoo'

JOEY BARTON has accused England’s shamed superstars of caring more about MONEY than WINNING.

The new Rangers signing watched in growing fury as his countrymen bumbled and stumbled to a humiliating Brexit at the hands of minnows Iceland.

And he pointed the finger at cock-up keep Joe Hart in particular for making TV commercials when he should be training.

Barton — capped once in 2007 — stormed: “England has a cultural problem. For example, you see Hart make a mistake like he did at the second goal, then at half-time he’s in an advert for shampoo.

“How’s that going to help them win? In England, they think more about making money than winning matches.

“What’s the keeper doing in a shampoo commercial? Shouldn’t he be doing some extra training?

“It amazes me. They never turn up with a proper winning mentality.

"It’s the same with rugby, they had a World Cup in their own backyard and did truly badly. They had a coach in Stuart Lancaster who was pretty much the same type as Roy Hodgson.

“Now he’s gone and been replaced by an Australian in Eddie Jones who has restored confidence and results in no time.

“In football, they never give the team the best coaches. The FA want to give the job to Englishmen, but we have zero good coaches, they’re all really job ex-players who have moved into management way too soon.

“It’s a completely different job, being a great player and being a great coach.

"Take Gary Neville — he’s been tipped as a potential successor to Hodgson, but he was completely bogus at Valencia, so why would they take him on? It’s beyond me.

“As for Hodgson himself, although the players — especially Hart — have made a lot of mistakes, he has to take an enormous responsibility. This England team has had so many problem, but the biggest of all was the manager.

“Yes, he’s gone now, but he should have gone after going out in the group stages at the World Cup.

“If Mourinho was in charge, he wouldn’t have taken the same players. But even if he did have the same team as Hodgson, he would have MADE them do better.

“Once again against Iceland, Hodgson changed his team at half-time.

"He’s played four teams here in Russia, Wales, Slovakia and Iceland who are all physical and all get men behind the ball, yet still he didn’t even bring Andy Carroll, who would have been just the man for these games with his heading ability.

“You see Antonio Conte with Italy, transmitting confidence to his players. Then you look at Hodgson on the bench and there’s nothing.”

Former Marseille midfielder Barton, writing in French newspaper L’Equipe, went on: “It’s a really worrying time for English football. The Premier League is rich, but that doesn’t mean our game’s strong. The people think it is, but they’re wrong.

“You have to work on the coaching of coaching, so that former players get a proper grounding in the job. It’s the same as any other job, but until they realise this, I can’t see things getting any better.

“And the thing is having said all that, this result is such good news for France, because I reckon they’ll beat Iceland no problem.”
