Gareth Southgate favourite to be next England manager but Twitter divided on who should take over from Roy Hodgson
Three Lions fans not impressed as the former Middlesbrough boss emerges as front runner for the job
GARETH SOUTHGATE is the early favourite to replace Roy Hodgson as England manager - and it's not gone down well with some fans.
England leave France battered and bruised after a humiliating 2-1 defeat to Iceland and must now find a new boss to lead them through the 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.
And Southgate, boss of the Under 20 side who lifted the Toulon Tournament earlier this summer, is the front-runner.
But the former Middlesbrough gaffer is hardly an inspired choice for many after he failed during his time at the Riverside.
Angry Three Lions fans want a change of direction after Hodgson's side served up a plodding and frankly embarrassing set of performances at the Euros.
Only their last minute win against Wales gave fans anything to smile about, whilst the other three games saw players static and lacking a direct plan.
Roy drew criticism for making six changes against Slovakia and then did the same again against Iceland, but the attack-minded approach he promised before the tournament never materialised.
Southgate is a similarly defensive minded coach, a centre-back himself, and fans are hardly inspired seeing his name in the hat.
