Eden Hazard: Belgium winger ends 716-minute wait for tournament goal with superb strike against Hungary
Chelsea star provided superb assist then scored two minutes later to put the game out of reach
EDEN HAZARD ended his long wait for a tournament goal with a superb strike in the 4-0 win over Hungary.
The Belgium captain all but secured his team's place in the quarter-final by scoring a third goal against Hungary - just two minutes after a brilliant assist for Michy Batshuayi.
The Chelsea star, 25, had not scored a tournament goal for the Red Devils.
He'd played five matches at the 2014 World Cup and three matches at this European Championships without finding the back of the net.
But he finally snapped that streak after a 716 minute wait - scoring with a lovely effort in the 4-0 win against Hungary.
The goal came just a minute after Hazard's brilliant assist had put the game out of reach.
Hungary failed to clear a corner and Hazard controlled the ball, before racing past his man and crossing for substitute Michy Batshuayi to score with his first touch.
A minute later Belgium then countered quickly and Hazard cut inside from the left, beat a man and curled a brilliant effort into the corner.
Speaking afterwards on the BBC, Alan Shearer said: "It must be so frustrating for Chelsea fans [to watch].
"Last season they didn't see him anywhere near that. They know he's capable of it."
Rio Ferdinand added: "He was moving defenders all game, they were off balance, he was getting them off balance.
"It's that decisiveness, that timing and that desire to get past and run past people.
"He was brilliant, everything he touched had an element of pure class about it.
"He can destroy a team on his own given the opportunity.
"But, again, it's about not slowing the game down all the time, not waiting for teams to get back in position.
"He's a pleasure to watch when you see him in this mood."
Toby Alderweireld had opened the scoring with an early header from a Kevin De Bruyne.
Another substitute, Yannick Carrasco, rounded of the scoring in what turned out to be an impressive win.
Marc Wilmots' team will face Gareth Bale and Wales on Friday night.
