Marco Reus OUT of the Germany squad but Lukas Podolski in as Joachim Low names shock final 23 for Euro 2016
The Borussia Dortmund star - who scored 20 goals this season- also missed the 2014 World Cup because of injury
MARCO REUS has been named as a shock omission from the Germany squad by manager Joachim Low.
The Borussia Dortmund forward, 27, scored 20 goals and added eight assists for the club last season.
However, Low has decided to leave the star out with reports stating that his injury record is a concern.
Reus missed the friendly defeat to Slovakia with a hip problem - he also missed the 2014 World Cup because of injury.
Low said: "The medical staff could not give a clear prognosis for Marco.
"He has massive injury problems and the medical staff was very sceptical about his ability to last through the coming weeks and such a gruelling tournament.
"It is a bitter decision and bitter for Marco."
In the past five seasons, only Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery has created more clear-cut chances (55) than Reus (54).
Julain Brandt, Karim Bellarabi and Sebastian Rudy were other surprise names to miss the final cut.
Despite a poor, injury-hit season at Manchester United, Bastian Schweinsteiger managers to make the final 23.
He is named in a midfield alongside the inexperienced Joshua Kimmich, who has one cap, and Julian Weigl, who has never been capped.
Mario Gomez, who led Besiktas to the Turkish title with 26 goals, could lead the line for the Germans as Low names only two other forwards - Thomas Muller and Lukas Podolski.
Gomez had barely played international football between 2013 and 2016.
Emre Can and Mesut Ozil are the two other Premier League players named in the final 23.
