POG-WHO?

Fantasy football tips: 5 alternatives to replace Paul Pogba in your team

  • Pogba will be sat on the sidelines for this weekend's Manchester derby
  • Who should you sign to replace the midfielder in your  line-up?

It's time to gear up for another weekend of Premier League and fantasy football - with Gameweek 15 set to be an absolute cracker.

One of the biggest games of the season is taking place on Sunday, as Jose Mourinho's Manchester United take on Pep Guardiola's City at Old Trafford.

The two Manchester club's are not only battling it out for bragging rights within their own city - they're essentially gunning for the Premier League title this season.

What's more, Mourinho and Guardiola are two of the biggest managerial rivals in recent history.

No wonder we're so excited.

But there's one guy who'll be missing as the two giants take to the stage.

Paul Pogba will be no where near United's starting line-up, as the French midfielder is suspended for the derby following his red card against Arsenal last weekend.

His absence will be a wrench in the works of Mourinho's match preparations, as the Special One will have to come up with an alternative to his most influential player in the biggest clash of the season.

Dream Team managers face a similar predicament, with 17.5 % of fantasy football managers stuck with Pogba in their line-up.

With Double P out for three games, who should you sign to replace him?

Here's some of the best Pogba replacements we think should consider:

Fantasy football tips: Who should replace Paul Pogba in your team?

1 David Silva - £4.8m

City's midfield magician is a slight doubt for the weekend's Manchester derby - although Mourinho reckons Pep is just playing mind games.

Who knows?

If you fancy going for him anyway, then you're in luck.

The Spaniard is a whole £1.0m cheaper than Pogba on Dream Team at the moment - and is no less inspirational.

Kevin De Bruyne maybe the talk of the town this season, but Silva has been the Citizen's inspiration for over seven years now.

He's notched eight assists and two goals in 15 games this season, scoring 81 points on Dream Team.

2 Aaron Ramsey - £5.5m

We heard you scoff, just then.

But Ramsey is one of Dream Team's leading midfield points scorers so far this season with 66 points - which is ahead of Pogba's 55.

He's also pretty much guaranteed to start for Arsenal - regularly played 90 minutes in Premier League game's this season having often been rested in the Europa League.

He'll likely be the midfield linchpin Arsenal's game against Southampton this weekend, and will be keen to add to his six assists and three goals in the top-flight this term.

3 Riyad Mahrez - £5.0m

The former Premier League Player of the Year has struggled to match his performances during Leicester's title-winning season.

But he's enjoyed a renewed oomph under Claude Puel - scoring against Tottenham in the Foxes recent 2-1 win and putting in a show-stopping performance against Burnley last weekend.

He's currently cheaper than Pogba on Dream Team, likely to pick you up a regular goal or an assist bonus and will relish playing against Newcastle at the weekend.

4 Christian Eriksen - £4.7m

In many ways, Eriksen is Tottenham's answer to Pogba.

The Dane is often Spurs' influence in the midfield, and often aids his team with an assist.

But he's also renowned for his ability on set-pieces - often taking the club's free-kicks and corners.

Tottenham's dodgy form lately means his price has dropped considerably, so he's considerably cheaper than Pogba at the moment.

What's more, he's way ahead of the United man in terms of Dream Team points - currently boasting 70.

5 Ander Herrera - £2.2m

...Or what about the guy who's likely to take Pogba's place in United's starting line-up this weekend?

With Pogba on the sidelines, Herrera will surely get the nod in midfield for the derby - and he's certainly not a bad guy to have waiting in the wings.

What's more, he'll relish the opportunity to start in such a big game.

With Mourinho snapping up Matic from Chelsea over the summer and Pogba one of the first name's of the team sheet (when he's fit to play and not suspended), Herrera has rarely found himself in the starting XI this season.

Which is a great shame, considering the former Bilbao star is one of the Premier League's most technically gifted midfielders.

He was the club's  Player of the Year last season, and was especially impressive in their successful run to the Europa League.

He's cheap as chips at the moment to - over half the price of Pogba.

Certainly worth some consideration.
