Real Madrid fan dies celebrating Alvaro Morata’s late Champions League winner against Sporting Lisbon
Stoppage time goal at the Bernabeu proved too much for supporter who collapsed with heart attack
A Real Madrid fan has died after celebrating Alvaro Morata's dramatic late winner against Sporting Lisbon.
The Champions League holders seemed destined to begin the defence of their crown with defeat as they trailed Sporting with just minutes remaining.
But Cristiano Ronaldo struck a brilliant free-kick to level the scores before Morata headed home the winning goal deep into stoppage time to seal a 2-1 win.
The goal sparked wild celebrations among Real supporters - but the tension was too much for one fan to take.
He jumped up to acclaim the goal but was struck down by a massive heart attack in front of fellow fans.
Paramedics rushed to treat him at a Madrid bar called El Bon Gust, but were unable to saved him as he passed away before reaching hospital.
