MANCHESTER UNITED fans are convinced Ed Woodward 'told Phil Jones off' in a bizarre exchange of words during the Red Devils' defeat at West Ham.

The pair were sat in the stands at the London Stadium and were picked up by the Sky Sports cameras during the second half.

Jones was chewing away and chatting to third-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant sat next to him.

Just after he was spotted shaking his head and seemingly muttering something - possibly criticising a refereeing decision - Woodward turned around to talk.

In all likelihood, executive vice-chairman Woodward was talking to a female executive sitting out of shot, rather than the out-of-favour Jones.

But it did not stop plenty of fans sharing their hilarious versions of how they think the conversation between Jones and Woodward went.

'WE'RE ON CAMERA'

One wrote: "Phil Jones being told to shut up by Ed Woodward is exactly what I needed today.

"'Phil, give it a rest. Yes he was 90 million quid but you son, are not a viable alternative. You're lucky you're sat behind me and not on the coach. Now shut up.'"

Another said: "Phil Jones: sacked in the morning. Ed Woodward : we’re on camera, stop."

A third added: "Phil Jones 'That’s poor'. Ed Woodward 'It was a great ball, stop.'"

And one final user tweeted: "Contrary to popular belief. Jones: 'That’s poor.' Woodward: 'It was a great ball, stop.'"

On the pitch, United were drab throughout and deserved to get nothing out of the game, cranking up the pressure on boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who has not masterminded an away Premier League win since February.

Sweet finishes from Andriy Yarmolenko and the returning Aaron Cresswell sealed all three points for the Hammers.

And Solskjaer admitted his side lacked "quality and execution" in the final third.

He said: "It's a good group to work with. They are determined. Sometimes along the road you will hit bumps, some highs and lows they showed the desire to get out, it was a good atmosphere in the dressing room. They got the focus right.

"This group - they want to do what we're trying to do. It's about key moments in games that can tip them in our favour instead of theirs. It may be a bad decision on a pass left right or centre.

"But the attitude and desire is there - that's not the problem. It's the quality in our decision-making and sometimes in the execution."
