RIO FERDINAND leapt to the defence of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as fans called for the Manchester United boss to be sacked following Sunday's 2-0 defeat to West Ham.

During a discussion on the game with a Red Devils YouTube channel, claims of "Ole out" came from the background - which the ex-defender took exception to.

Many fans are unhappy because Solskjaer's United are on a run of three Premier League wins in 13 games.

That includes not only Sunday's limp defeat at London Stadium but the dire end to last season that saw the team fail to complete an unlikely run to the Champions League.

While speaking to The United Stand channel outside the ground, Ferdinand was questioned on the team's lack of overall improvement under the Norwegian.

At the suggestion of Ole out, he responded: "Where's that coming from?

"Ole out for what?

"Are we just going to keep changing managers every week, is that what everyone wants: You get a bad result, you change [the manager].

"Two weeks ago I didn't see people saying we want Ole out.

"And now it's changed after two weeks, come on man.

"It's too kneejerk - sometimes you've just got to let a thing play out."

Andriy Yarmolenko and Aaron Cresswell sealed the points for West Ham as the visitors continued their seven-month dry spell without an away league win.

Chiming in at the final whistle was Piers Morgan, who delightedly retweeted an old clip of Ferdinand exclaiming "United are back" while gleefully rubbing his hands after March's win over Paris Saint-Germain.

"Hi mate..." tweeted the presenter to caption a clip of Ferdinand getting a little bit ahead of himself.
