Sergio Aguero breaks Wayne Rooney’s record by scoring in first six Premier League games during demolition of Watford

MANCHESTER CITY devoured Watford on Saturday afternoon as Sergio Aguero broke a Premier League record by scoring in each of the first six games in a season.

While it took the reigning champions just a minute to stretch ahead of the Hornets, the Argentine, 31, had to wait until the seventh minute to get in on the fun.

Netting a penalty after Ben Foster fouled Riyad Mahrez made it eight in six for Aguero after scoring in every game of 2019/20 so far.

And City went on to secure a mammoth 8-0 win over Watford, Bernardo Silva chipping in with a hat-trick.

No player has registered in each of the opening six games of a Prem campaign before, Wayne Rooney and Jose Antonio Reyes sharing the previous best.

In 2011, Rooney bagged nine in five for Manchester United including two hat-tricks - versus Arsenal and Bolton.

And former Arsenal hero Reyes, who tragically died in a car accident in the summer, scored a single goal past each of Everton, Middlesbrough, Blackburn, Norwich and Fulham in 2004/05.

Notably for Aguero today however is the fact that neither Rooney nor Reyes won the title having started the season so impressively.

Arsenal succumbed to Chelsea despite going unbeaten all of the previous year and Rooney's United famously lost the title to Aguero's 94th minute winner versus QPR in 2011/12.

Aguero didn't even start in City's opening day thrashing of West Ham and missed a penalty having come on - only for VAR to allow a retake that he scored.

Following that up with strikes past Tottenham and Norwich, bookending braces versus Bournemouth and Brighton, the forward is now the league's top scorer.

Tammy Abraham was level with Aguero going into the weekend and the Chelsea forward will have a chance at replying at home to Liverpool on Sunday.
