Depay hails Rashford on Instagram as Man Utd striker recalls Europa League debut goals that kick-started career

MEMPHIS DEPAY has hailed Marcus Rashford after the Manchester United striker recalled his famous Europa League debut on Instagram.

The England striker, 21, scored twice on his United bow against Midtjylland in 2016 after being called up as a late injury replacement for Anthony Martial.

Since that fateful night - with United running out 5-1 winners at Old Trafford - Rashford has been a key part of both Man Utd and England's plans.

And the Red Devils ace took to Instagram to share a picture of that "special" night three-and-a-half years ago ahead of Thursday's clash with Astana.

Rashford captioned the snap: "The @europaleague holds special memories for me.‬ Determined to make more and take us on to bigger things."

And former United flop - now Lyon and Holland ace - Depay replied, "Jheeezzzz I remember", complete with three fire emojis.

WOOD YOU BELIEVE IT?

Now United go into their first game of the new Europa League campaign with a new young forward aiming to make waves in the shape of Mason Greenwood.

The striker, 17, is in line to start the Old Trafford showdown - with boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer calling him "one of the best finishers" he's seen.

Solskjaer revealed: “He's still very young but he's maturing in the last six months since I came in.

“I remember the kid who just wanted to play with mates in the U18s and know he is knocking on the door.

“His appetite for football must be growing, I just don't want to put too much pressure on him.

“He should go out there, enjoy himself, work hard and make the right finish, he's one of the best finishers I've seen."

United take on Astana at Old Trafford, with kick-off 8pm on Thursday September 19.
