And the emotions again ran high on his first game in charge after Ariel Garcia equalised cancelling out Diego Gonzalez’s 36th minute opener.

Garcia’s goal on 52 minutes sparked a massive reaction from manager Maradona - who clung onto his coaching staff in celebration.

However, his debut as Gimnasia boss ended in heartache as just two minutes after equalising Matias Zaracho netted a winner for Racing Club.

It comes after an Argentine chant recalling Maradona's Hand of God goal against England brought the iconic midfielder to tears as he was unveiled as the manager of Gimnasia.

Considered something of a classic among Argentine fans, "El que no salta es un inglés" - roughly translating into "If you don't jump, you're an Englishman" - rang around the stadium.

Upon hearing the chant, Maradona immediately welled up and began moving in tune with the fans - who jump about while singing.

He even grabbed a microphone and fought back the tears while pledging to bring success to the club.

Fireworks and giant inflatables of the World Cup winner also adorned the celebratory Estadio Juan Carmelo Zerillo.
