Nacho Monreal scores on Real Sociedad debut as Arsenal fans delight in seeing him beat Kieran Trippier’s Atletico Madrid
NACHO MONREAL scored on his Real Sociedad debut as Arsenal fans were left delighted after seeing him beat Kieran Trippier's Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish left-back, 33, netted in his side's 2-0 home win over much-fancied Atletico Madrid.
Monreal's 61st-minute strike sent Arsenal fans into a frenzy - with no one giving former Tottenham man Trippier a night off from the North London jibes.
On-loan Real Madrid youngster Martin Odegaard had earlier scored the opener for Sociedad, as Atelti missed the chance to go top of La Liga.
Taking Twitter after the game, one fan wrote: "Once a Gunner, always a Gunner. So happy for Monreal."
Another said: "Today on things you love to see: Monreal bossing Trippier in Spain, Once a Gooner always a Gooner."
A third added: "Nacho Monreal flexing against Kieran Trippier and Diego Costa. The North remembers."
One even speculated it was all an elaborate plan to allow Unai Emery to land Dani Ceballos on a permanent deal next summer.
The tweet read: "Arsenal send Monreal to Sociedad to sink Atletico and support Real Madrid in their pursuit of the title which subsequently betters relations between Madrid and Arsenal and makes Flo sell us Ceballos for £30m."
