Man Utd offer Lindelof new £150,000-a-week deal as Solskjaer plots to keep his £188m back four together for next five years
MANCHESTER UNITED will offer Victor Lindelof a new contract to keep the clubs back four together for the next five years.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is determined to see a settled defensive line grow together as the foundation for his new United.
Including the one-year extension options on deals, he currently has £80million new buy Harry Maguire, 26, at the club until 2025.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka, 21, who also joined in the summer for £50m from Crystal Palace, has the same deal.
Left back Luke Shaw, 24, signed an extension until 2024 last October.
Swede Lindelof signed for United from Benfica for £31m back in 2017 but his contract finishes before the other three in 2022.
Now Solskjaer wants to offer him a new four-year-deal with that extra year option to bring him in line with the other three.
DOUBLE YER MONEY
That deal would see Lindelof doubles his wages to around £150,000-a-week.
It will also give United the stability they want and avoid recent contract problems that saw Ander Herrera run his deal down and leave on a free.
David De Gea could do the same this summer.
Both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford also got dangerously towards the end of their contracts before penning new deals.
Solskjaer spoke recently about the benefits of having a solid regular back line, saying: “Your team will always play better if you're settled, have a good foundation and you’re not conceding goals.
“I think the good teams I played in always had a strong base with the keeper and a settled back line.”
He will certainly need that to move on after a poor start to the new season which has brought just one win from their first four games.
They face third-place Leicester at home on Saturday.
