Arsenal veteran Keown is the latest star to rip into Xhaka following his disastrous display during the 2-2 draw at the Emirates.

Gary Neville slated the 26-year-old for not learning from his mistakes despite being a more senior member of the Arsenal squad.

And fans have even begged the club to sell him before the European transfer window closes.

Keown, who played for the Gunners from 1993 until 2004, has criticised Xhaka's tackling ability.

Writing in his column, Keown said: "He gifted the visitors their spot-kick by sliding in on Son Heung-min right under referee Martin Atkinson's nose.

"Did he really think that would end well? Then his constant fouling interrupted Arsenal's flow.

"The hosts lost momentum because he kept breaking up play. This is what Xhaka does.

"He is like a fire engine that turns up and discovers the house has already burned down - he's that late."

The Arsenal skipper admitted he was "angry" about his "mistake" which led to Harry Kane giving Tottenham an early lead.

After the game, he wrote on Instagram: "Thanks for the amazing support inside the Emirates. We showed a lot of character and you helped us to come back into the game.

"For the penalty I made a mistake - I'm of course angry about but I will never give up."

The match ended 2-2 after goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang secured a point for Unai Emery's side.
