Appiah has been tracked by Manchester United but Almeria have moved swiftly to secure him on a permanent deal.

It is among the most expensive La Liga 2 deals in history.

But it could see Appiah face the likes of Lionel Messi within a year, should he help his club earn promotion.

Almeria could also offer a better pathway to first-team football compared to England, which may have been their edge in their bid to land one of the Three Lions' exciting prospects.

The teenager has played for the Under-19s and featured for Forest's first-team last season when he scored in the EFL Cup.

He was rewarded with a new four-and-a-half year deal at the City Ground in January, which boosted his value in the market.

Appiah was born in Amsterdam before making his way to England as a child.

He joined Forest's youth ranks in 2010 - aged just nine - where he spent eight years before making his first-team debut in 2018.

Appiah made just six league appearances, scoring one goal - as well as earning 11 caps for England's Under-18s.
