MANCHESTER CITY are looking for new tenants to take over their old training HQ — with ex-Red Gary Neville leading a bidding war.
City rented the plush Carrington facility, their home for years, to Bury before the Shakers ran into major financial troubles that cost them their Football League status.
News of a potential deal at around £80,000-a-year has come to the attention of many clubs with their eyes on a top-level training centre.
Neville, 44, is looking for a base for his Salford City side and knows the area well as it is close to where his old club Manchester United are still based.
Salford have been searching for a better working HQ to match their ambitions after several failed attempts to find the right place.
The League Two new boys clearly have the money but City might have issues because of the strong United link.
That has left the door open for others.
One source said: “The idea of painting the training ground red one way or another has not gone down well with those involved.”
League One Rochdale are also possible tenants although the money is quite a stretch for the cash- conscious club.
Ironically, Dale will make a killing from a Carabao Cup third-round tie at United to help their bid.
However, Salford insiders are confident they can get a deal done and in time to move in next month.

Meanwhile, City will have to find £16.5million to sign Argentine starlet Thiago Almada — if he pens a new deal for his club Velez Sarsfield.
Etihad boss Pep Guardiola wanted the kid — dubbed the new Messi — but would not go beyond £12m following lengthy talks.
Velez spoke to Almada, 18, about extending his contract but it will include a higher fixed transfer fee as part of the deal, due to be signed tomorrow.
