STREAK OVER

Nicolas Pepe dribbles past Virgil van Dijk as Liverpool man is finally beaten for first time in 50 matches

IT finally happened - Virgil van Dijk's ridiculous streak is over.

Incredibly, the Liverpool superstar had not been dribbled past in the Premier League since March 2018 a run of 50 matches.

But at Anfield on Saturday evening, the Dutch rock was finally bested.

And Arsenal fans were absolutely loving it as £72million new boy Nicolas Pepe beat Van Dijk on the ground.

Not usually a fanbase to overreact at the slightest hint of talent, Gooners could hardly contain their excitement with their new boy's achievement.

afc_ethan wrote: "Pepe is actually toying with Van Dijk. In tears. New Henry."

Darren added: "Only took Pepe five minutes to dribble past Van Dijk."

3xceptional said: "Pepe just dribbled past Van Dijk, that's the first time any player has done that in 49 appearances. That's mad."

Cams wrote: "Van Dijk don't want this smoke from Pepe."

Even Gary Neville was getting carried away with Pepe's flash of brilliance, claiming the £72million new boy was making Van Dijk "nervous".

So what came of Pepe's mazy run?

Nothing, as the Ivorian managed to muddle up his own feet and the attack fizzled out.

Empire of the Kop summed it up pretty well, writing: "I see opposition fans are enjoying Pepe apparently dribbling past van Dijk.

"Just shows how incredible he is, people celebrating it like a goal."

Oh, and you won't guess the last person to get round Van Dijk.

Eden Hazard? Sadio Mane? Son Heung-min?

Nope... Mikel Merino.

Pepe later had a great chance to put Arsenal 1-0 up at Anfield, driving past Fabinho to go one-on-one with Adrian.

But he took his shot on too soon and fired straight at the keeper when he really should have done better.
