Man City legend Vincent Kompany makes himself captain at Anderlecht… where he is also player-manager
VINCENT KOMPANY has taken matters into his own hands after Anderlecht's terrible start to the season.
Appointed player-manager at the start of the summer, the defender will now also be captain of the struggling giants.
It means assistant coach Simon Davies is in charge of matchday tactics.
Kompany had only juggled the role for four league matches but Anderlecht have started the Belgian Pro League season terribly.
An opening day defeat was followed by two 0-0 draws and any optimism coming from those clean sheets was wiped away by a stunning loss at Kortrijk on Saturday.
Another former Manchester City man, Samir Nasri, put the Brussels club ahead before four second-half goals resulted in a 4-2 loss - and things don't get any easier with a Thursday night trip to champions Genk.
Nasri had been named captain but now Kompany, who has played every minute of the season so far, will try and lead from the back.
That leaves former City reserves boss Davies to take the helm from the dugout.

After the decision was made, he told reporters: "It's important that he is a player on match day.
"We're learning about each other right now, and if Vinny can be the best player in the league - which he is - and lead on the field then I can take the responsibility in terms of other things; all the changes and how we play, if we need to change shape during the game.
"Then I will take that responsibility with the staff."
