Man Utd ace McTominay reveals he has ‘close bond’ with new-boy James after tragic father’s death and emotional debut goal

MANCHESTER UNITED midfielder Scott McTominay revealed he has a really 'close bond' with new boy Daniel James.

James, 21, had a tough start to his United career after his father died just days before he signed for the Red Devils from Swansea in June.

But despite the hardship, the Welsh winger had a dream Old Trafford debut when he came on in the 74th minute of United's Premier League opener against Chelsea and scored just ten minutes later to make it 4-0.

And McTominay, 22, was quick to sing the praises of his new teammate in a  interview.

'I WAS MADE UP FOR HIM'

The Scot said: "I've had a really really close bond with him since he came to club.

"I knew a bit about him before he came and I am just so, so pleased.

"It's probably one of the happiest I've been on a football pitch - seeing one of my pals score his first goal for the club.

"I was made up for him so when I got home I sent him a text and said well done.

"He deserves it. He's such a hard working lad and he knows it's only the start.

"It's not just one goal, it's about getting 50 or 100.

"He's very capable of that and as you've seen he's done really well at the start of his Man Utd career."

James made a good week even better when he signed a bumper boot deal with Adidas just days after his dream home debut.

And his brother issued an apology to the winger - admitting he left him out of his fantasy football team.
