Liverpool star Dejan Lovren still wanted by Roma in £25m transfer after falling out of favour under Klopp

LIVERPOOL outcast Dejan Lovren could be offered an escape route from Anfield by Roma.

The Croatian has been linked with a move to Serie A throughout the summer and Roma are considering a move.

According to , the Giallorossi are weighing up whether to complete a deal for Lovren or Juventus defender Daniele Rugani.

New coach Paulo Fonseca is said to prefer the 30-year-old Liverpool man given his experience and desire to leave the Premier League.

Willing to take a pay cut on his £100,000-a-week wages, Lovren has found himself fourth-choice under Jurgen Klopp this year.

He wasn't even on the bench for the opening weekend win over Norwich with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip favoured.

But the Roma hierarchy are primarily pressing for Rugani given Juventus' willingness to let the Italian international go.

The 25-year-old was the subject of talks between sporting directors Gianluca Petrachi and Fabio Paratici last week ahead of an initial loan move.

And he has agreed to leave Turin for Rome on the basis there is a purchase clause, worth around £23.2million, embedded in the deal.

It is suggested the switch could be completed on either Monday or Tuesday as the capital club see Rugani as the ideal replacement for Kostas Manolas, who left for Napoli earlier in the summer.

Should the deal stumble at the final hurdles, the £25m option of Lovren is their first alternative.
