With a Marcus Rashford double and Anthony Martial strike Welshman James was brought on after 74 minutes with his side sitting pretty three goals up.

A counter attack led by Paul Pogba saw the French World Cup winner put new arrival James in on goal.

The 21-year-old slotted home with a strike from inside the box after it deflected off Emerson past keeper Kepa.

James rushed to the corner flag in celebration and went berserk when he got there as he screamed and threw arms backwards.

It was unsurprising with his perfect debut coming after an emotional couple of months.

It comes two months after the tragic death of his father, which occurred just before the winger’s £15million move from Swansea.

MAKING DAD PROUD

James' father Kevan had been ill but the death in May came as a devastating shock to the winger's family.

The 21-year-old paid respect to his late dad after scoring the winning penalty against AC Milan in pre-season.

United held out for a clean sheet and handed Lampard a disastrous Chelsea managerial debut.

The win takes Solskjaer’s men straight to second, trailing behind Manchester rivals City.

League champions City thrashed West Ham 5-0 on Saturday with Liverpool’s 4-1 win against Norwich on Friday affording them a third place position after the opening weekend.
