AJAX prodigy Donny Van de Beek has confirmed talks over a potential move to Real Madrid are ongoing - dealing a blow to Paul Pogba's hopes of joining Los Blancos.
The La Liga giants chased the French World Cup winner all summer with Manchester United holding out for £180million.
And Zinedine Zidane is understood to be insisting on bringing Pogba in before the summer transfer window closes in Europe on September 2.
But, with United digging their heels in on their valuation of the Frenchman, Real chiefs have turned their attention to Van de Beek.
Reports claimed earlier this month that Los Blancos had already agreed a £60m fee with Ajax for the Dutch star.
And the midfielder has now confirmed that his move is edging closer with all sides working to get the deal over the line.
Van de Beek said: "There are still negotiations. I would like things to be resolved as soon as possible.
"When I am at the stadium and playing, I don’t ever think about my possible move."

It is claimed Ajax want to keep Van de Beek until the second leg of the Champions League qualifiers against PAOK.
The Amsterdam side drew 2-2 in Greece, with the reverse fixture to take place this Tuesday.
Van de Beek has already scored two goals and assisted a further two in three appearances this season.
