AZ Alkmaar’s stadium roof collapses completely destroying part of a stand
AZ ALKMAAR'S AFAS Stadion roof collapsed completely destroying part of a stand.
A shocking picture revealed that the roof of the main stand had come down.
It was confirmed no people were present in the stadium and comes after strong winds across Holland caused trees to collapse.
The AFAS Stadion has a capacity of 17,023 people, centred in Alkmaar 25 miles outside of Amsterdam.
AZ travel to RKC Waalwijk in a league match on Sunday, having played at home against Fortuna Sittard last weekend.
The Europa League third round qualifying match against FC Mariupol at the AFAS Stadion will now be re-scheduled.
AZ suffered a shock fire at their stadium in 2013 in a Europa League clash against Greek side Atromitos, causing the game to be abandoned after 57 minutes.
With the Greek side leading 1-0 the second leg, but trailing 3-2 on aggregate, spectators had to evacuate the stadium.
AZ played the remaining 33 minutes of their play-off against Atromitos a day later.
Atromitos scored another goal in the second game, but went out on away goals.
