BRUNO FERNANDES was captured training with Sporting Lisbon after transfer talks with Manchester United and Tottenham came to nothing.
The Portugal midfielder was heavily linked with a move to United this summer but Old Trafford chiefs never met the £63million asking price of the 24-year-old.
As talks over a switch to Manchester fizzled out Spurs upped their interest in Fernandes - who netted 31 goals last season.
Sporting rejected a £55m bid from Tottenham again sticking with their £63m valuation, and the North London side turned their attention to Real Betis' Giovani Lo Celso.
With a mega-money move to the Premier League further away than ever Fernandes was captured on video training with his Lisbon team-mates.
It comes after the midfielder offered a grovelling apology to Sporting fans after his side were thrashed by Benfica in the Portuguese Super Cup on Tuesday.
The in demand playmaker was left in tears on the pitch following the 5-0 mauling in the annual showdown.
Fernandes, Sporting's captain, even had objects launched in his direction as he looked to be departing for England.
Transfer News
But after United paid a record £85m for defender Harry Maguire, they looked unable to find the cash for the Portuguese international.
Old Trafford chiefs are close to recouping £76.5m for striker Romelu Lukaku, who has undergone a medical with Inter Milan.
However, the transfer fee looks to have come too late for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to spend on a midfielder, with Spurs’ Christian Eriksen also set to miss out on a move to Manchester.
