Tottenham complete deadline day loan signing of Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis with obligation to complete £55m transfer next summer
TOTTENHAM have announced the arrival of Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis on loan.
Spurs will fork out £15million for the loan fee, with the obligation to pay a further £38m on a permanent deal should they qualify for the Champions League.
A club statement said: "We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement for the season-long loan signing of Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis with an option to make the transfer permanent."
Lo Celso's arrival has concluded a busy deadline day in North London with Ryan Sessegnon expected to sign for Mauricio Pochettino's side.
They will now join club-record buy Tanguy Ndombele in the squad for Saturday’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa.
Lo Celso scored 16 goals last season for Betis after making a loan switch from Paris Saint-Germain, which became permanent this summer.
Despite the deal becoming permanent, the former Rosario Central ace has not played a competitive game for Betis after being owned by them.
He has been enjoying time in his native country of Argentina after helping them reach the Copa America semi-finals, where they were eliminated by hosts Brazil.
Tottenham drew 1-1 with Inter Milan on Sunday in their final pre-season match before Pochettino's side face newly-promoted Villa.
It will be Spurs' first competitive game since the heartache of losing last season's Champions League final and the club are looking to finally make a proper push for the Premier League title.
They then travel to champions Manchester City for the following Saturday, before hosting Newcastle eight days later.
