DANNY WELBECK has been thrown a Premier League lifeline after signing for Watford.

The former Arsenal forward had been searching for a club since he was released by the Gunners at the end of last season.

Welbeck, 28, has been riddled with injuries over the last two seasons and was restricted to just one league start last campaign.

He had attracted interest from Everton and West Ham who had hopes of helping him regain his best form.

Both clubs cooled their interest with Welbeck looking for regular first-team football.

Watford have taken a gamble with reports suggesting he could be on a deal worth up to £100,000-a-week.

It will mean he becomes the club's highest paid player - earning £30,000 more Troy Deeney.

However the deal is likely to include performance related add-ons with serious concerns about his ability to remain fit throughout the course of the campaign.

Welbeck was reportedly asking for a £5million sell-on fee as he is a free agent.

He becomes just their second major signing of the summer following the arrival of West Brom's Craig Dawson.
