Ilkay Gundogan poised to sign new long-term deal at Man City after positive talks
ILKAY GUNDOGAN is poised to sign a new long-term contract with Manchester City this month.
The Germany international midfielder, 28, is into the final year of his £120,000-a-week deal at the Etihad.
Talks over an extension failed to reach a conclusion last season with Gundogan, who moved from Borussia Dortmund in 2016 for £20million, unsure over how much he would play.
However he was a key man in City’s domestic Treble last season and is now expected to stay beyond the end of the season.
Asked about his future he said: “If you stay patient for another couple of weeks you will know – we will see.
“Every situation is different and individual. Everyone has to take a decision for himself.
“These kind of decisions sometimes take a little bit of time.”
While many players have been quick to sign new deals at City, Gundogan - who came off the bench in yesterday's Community Shield win over Liverpool - chose to take his time and weigh up his options.
He said: “During last season I asked people to be patient because it’s a decision you make for the next few years.
“That’s why I was calm and relaxed and still am.
“It’s a comfortable situation for me at the moment.”
