Man City player ratings: Bravo and Walker heroics earn the edge over Liverpool as champions hit ground running

MANCHESTER CITY won the Community Shield for the second year in a row thanks to a penalty shootout on Sunday.

Liverpool fought back after the Premier League champions dominated the first-half, Raheem Sterling putting them in front.

The game finished 1-1 following Joel Matip's headed leveller but Georginio Wijnaldum saw his effort saved and City won 5-4 on spot-kicks, Gabriel Jesus tucking home the winner.

With the season off to a flying start with a feisty affair, Martin Blackburn gives his verdict on each City player's performance.

CLAUDIO BRAVO - 8 (STAR MAN)

Back from a year out with injury but made some key saves in keeping Liverpool out - then saved the crucial spot-kick in the shoot-out.

KYLE WALKER - 8

What a sensational goalline clearance to keep out Salah's header at the end - incredible agility. Almost worth man of the match.

JOHN STONES - 7

Had a shaky time of late but this was more like it - held firm as Liverpool came storming back.

NICOLAS OTAMENDI - 6

Only just back from his holidays in midweek so no surprise he was blowing a bit at times but came through.

ALEKS ZINCHENKO - 5

Poor header almost punished by Salah summed up a difficult day for the Ukranian. Scored his pen though.

RODRI - 6

New boy imposed himself on the game - big physical presence with a nice touch. Tired a bit after the break.

BERNARDO SILVA - 7

Some silky touches as usual from the Portuguese - seeing him, de Bruyne and Silva together in midfield will be a treat.

DAVID SILVA - 7

Enough super touches to suggest his last season in a sky blue shirt is going to be good fun. A class act.

KEVIN DE BRUYNE - 7

What a huge bonus for boost for City to have him back - had a hand in the opener and much more.

Shot into side netting and forced to limp off soon afterwards. What effect will that have on a possible switch to Bayern?

Finally broke his duck against his old club - but should have had a couple more.
