Man Utd new boy Dan James ‘proud’ after posing as a MASCOT before pre-season win over Kristiansund

MANCHESTER UNITED new boy Daniel James is "proud" to have become the world's most expensive mascot.

The £15million Wales winger posted a cheeky chap of himself joining the matchday kids in the front row - rather than his team-mates at the back - in a squad photo for the 1-0 friendly win at Kristiansund,

Some of the schoolboy mascots in the line-up can be seen gazing up at the colossus in their ranks.

And certainly James has made a giant leap in his career this summer after swapping mid-table Championship side Swansea for Premier League big boys United.

The 21-year-old tweeted a four-picture compilation of his mascot antics with the words: "Proud moment to walk out with the team yesterday as the club mascot 😄😂"

But that attracted some comments that would have made even Swansea's Cyril the Swan and United's Fred the Red cover their innocent eyes.

James posing with the mascots instead of the players was an open goal to doubters of such a raw talent, still unproven at the highest level.

'SIGN USAIN BOLT INSTEAD'

One sceptic said: "Literally has nothing to his game but pace. Should’ve just given Usain Bolt the contract when he wanted it."

And another urged James: "Improve your decision making. cheers."

But most fans were hungry to give the four-cap starlet the chance to develop.

And one hit back by ridiculing those who are already writing James off.

He posted: : Aye mate, can’t learn that’s why Vardy was a Premier league quality striker when he was playing for Halifax town. Or how Ronaldo went from quick talented flashy kid to one of the best to ever play."
