Unai Emery reveals five-man shortlist to become new Arsenal captain… but who would be your pick?
UNAI EMERY has revealed he has a five-man shortlist for who will become new Arsenal captain - but who would be your pick?
Current skipper Laurent Koscielny, 33, is set to leave the club this summer after snubbing their pre-season tour of the US.
With the Frenchman seemingly Ligue 1-bound - with Rennes and Bordeaux interested - Emery is set to replace him with a team of captains.
The Spanish chief named Granit Xhaka, Mesut Ozil and Nacho Monreal as three of his five-strong group.
And he went on to reveal he will add the next two in the coming weeks saying: "We are working now with the captains. They are Xhaka, Ozil and Monreal.
"I want to add two more and then I am going to decide the number one, two, three, four and five in the next weeks."
MYSTERY CANDIDATES
Rob Holding and Calum Chambers have both been tipped to be future captains for the club - but at this stage are relatively inexperienced and in-and-out of the first-team.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is another option for the armband, but fan-favourite Hector Bellerin and Bernd Leno are the most likely options to round-out the five.
While Emery could have done without worrying about who would be his leader this season, it appears to have not distracted him from the transfer market this summer.
Despite working with a budget of just £45m - minuscule compared to their top six rivals - Arsenal have had huge success.

As well as the signing of Gabriel Martinelli, the Gunners have brought in Real Madrid star Dani Ceballos on loan.
Nicolas Pepe is set to join for just £20m up-front, leaving cash in the budget for Emery to make his £25m move for Celtic ace Kieran Tierney.
Arsenal also splashed £27m - of which just £3m was an up-front payment - for St Etienne defender William Saliba.
