How Man Utd could line up vs Kristiansund as Solskjaer prepares for life without Lukaku
OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER is still deciding on his strongest line-up with Romelu Lukaku’s departure edging closer.
The Belgian striker did not travel with the rest of the squad to Norway for Manchester United’s penultimate pre-season game against Kristiansund.
Even though Solskjaer shuffled his squad heavily during the summer tour of Australia and Asia, United won four games out of four.
Lukaku, however, failed to make a single appearance, with official statements claiming the Belgian is dealing with an injury.
But negotiations over his Old Trafford exit are ongoing as Juventus and Inter Milan are battling it out for his signature.
And, with the striker’s departure on the cards, Solskjaer will have one more chance to weigh up his attacking options when United take on his hometown club Kristiansund tomorrow.
The Norwegian boss is expected to make plenty of changes to the starting line-up following last week’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham.
CHANGES EXPECTED
Sergio Romero could return in goal, with youngster Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones leading the defensive line.
Luke Shaw is likely to start in the left-back role with new boy Aaron Wan-Bissaka supporting him on the opposite flank.
Scott McTominay should retain his place, paired with veteran Nemanja Matic in midfield.
While Andreas Pereira could operate behind the attacking trio – led again by Anthony Martial, who bagged against Spurs.
Solskjaer might eventually give Dan James some rest – sending Juan Mata on – as his new wideman started all four pre-season clashes during United’s pre-season tour.
But rising star Mason Greenwood should man the right wing again, as the Red Devils boss is yet to decide whether the teen is ready to play in the Premier League opener against Chelsea.
AN ALTERNATIVE XI
Alternatively, Tahith Chong could feature after he sit out the Tottenham clash having received some physical battering in the 1-0 victory over Inter.
And Angel Gomes might play a big part tomorrow, being rewarded for his late match-winner on Thursday.
Paul Pogba’s involvement is likely to be minimised as reports keep linking him with a Real Madrid move this summer.
