Man Utd legend Patrice Evra retires from football aged 38 to become coach
MANCHESTER UNITED legend Patrice Evra has retired from football to become a coach.
The 38-year-old has called time on a 20-year career, where he will be best remembered as United’s roving left-back.
He joined the Premier League giants in January 2006 in a £5.5million deal from Monaco, and went on to make 273 appearances, scoring three goals.
During that time he won a Champions League, five Premier League trophies and three League Cups.
He left Old Trafford for Juventus in 2014 where he won three Serie A trophies, and after three years there he returned home to France with Marseille.
It was during his time with the Ligue 1 side that Evra made the headlines for the wrong reasons when he shockingly kicked a fan in the head.
Her had just finished the warm-up ahead of the Europa League match against Vitoria when he became involved in a fight with away fans and punted one.
KUNG-FU KICK AT FAN
He was subsequently fired by Marseille and suspended from football for seven months.
His final club was West Ham. But after making just five appearances after signing at the start of the 2018 season, he was released.
The 38-year-old played 81 times for France, but failed to score for his country.
Evra will also be remembered for his wacky social media antics.
He regularly uploaded clips of him doing weird and wonderful things followed by his famous “I love this game” slogan.
One of his most bizarre acts involved sucking and slapping a raw chicken in a apparent ‘tribute’ to Thanksgiving.
And earlier this year he was forced to issue a grovelling apology after appearing to call Paris Saint-Germain “f*****s” in astonishing rant.
SOCIAL MEDIA SHOCKERS
The Manchester United legend was branded “homophobic” by the French club for comments made while he filmed himself in the back of a taxi in Paris replying to Snapchat users.
He has also been very vocal of the situation at Old Trafford and how the club can get back to challenging for titles.
SunSport reported how Evra believes Paul Pogba will leave the club after being ‘turned on by fans’.
Speaking to , the 37-year-old said: “I don’t want to blame all the players because I think that some players are here (at United) and they themselves don’t even know why they are here.
“I think (Pogba) will leave, because you need to feel the love when you play somewhere, you need to be committed.
“If Paul decides to stay another year and then leave, or stay another few years, maybe the fans will love him because he is committed.
“It’s not like I am protecting Paul but when there are incidents like yesterday with the fan, they are killing Paul.”
And Evra believes Pogba will not be the only big-name departure over the next few months.
