Spurs told to fork out £40m transfer fee by Fulham for Ryan Sessegnon but Pochettino thinks he can get him for £25m
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR boss Mauricio Pochettino is still confident of paying just £25million for Ryan Sessegnon – despite Fulham wanting £40m.
The situation is pressing for the Cottagers given that the winger’s contract runs for just one more year.
Not only will that allow him to move for a cut-price compensation package next summer, foreign clubs can pre-agree a deal from January.
According to , Fulham set a £40m asking price when the transfer window opened.
With no takers so far, Spurs manager Pochettino is said to be confident that a deal can be cut for significantly less than that.
Should Fulham turn down the £25m offer and fail to agree a new contract, they will be forced to accept a compensation package worth around £500,000 if he leaves as a free agent.
The 19-year-old was a key cog in the Cottagers’ promotion winning campaign of 2017/18 but, like his teammates, struggled in the Premier League.
In 35 appearances, nine of which came off the bench, he scored just twice and made six assists.
That middling form was followed by a quiet showing at the Euro Under-21 Championship with England.
In Italy, Sessegnon was substituted off during the opening loss to France and picked up a hamstring complaint as his side slumped to a defeat against Romania.
Spurs may push to snap up the teenager if Danny Rose leaves the club.
Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are linked with a £20m move for the left-back, who has sat out his side’s tour of Asia amid the speculation.
