FOR YOU, DAD

Man Utd star Daniel James driven on by memory of tragic dad and says ‘he is looking down on me’

DANIEL JAMES admits the memory of his late father is helping to "drive me on" as he begins life as a Manchester United player.

The Welsh winger, 21, sealed his £18million move to Old Trafford just weeks after his dad Kevan tragically passed away aged 60.

But as he adjusts to two massive changes in his life, James says his dad "looking down on me" is pushing him to succeed.

He revealed: "Every day, I miss him. He always drove me on when he was here and I know he is looking down on me now, still driving me on.

"There are times when I am a bit down about it but what he would say is just keep playing and working hard.

"I am living with my girlfriend in Manchester, which is nice. The support I have had from the club and everyone around it has been amazing.

"It is a boyhood dream to play for Manchester United. To come here is a bit surreal.

"You see the number of fans out there and how far some of them have travelled to see. It is going to take a bit of getting used to."

James is currently in Singapore with the Red Devils enjoying pre-season with his new team-mates.

He has started in all three of their matches so far as United beat Perth Glory, Leeds and Inter Milan.

It was fellow youngster Mason Greenwood who came off the bench to net a deserved winner against the Italian side, cutting inside the defender and producing a good finish.

James added: "It was good. We played a great team and dominated a lot of the game.

"We showed what we have been working on over the last ten to 14 days, the high press and win the ball back as fast as we can.

"It is pleasing but there are three more games to the start of the season.

"The players who came on did very well, as you saw with Mason. We need to keep playing and working hard as a team."
