Cardiff close in on £6m Aden Flint transfer with defender undergoing medical after ‘diabolical’ season at Middlesbrough
ADEN FLINT is on the verge of ending his Middlesbrough nightmare and joining Cardiff City in a £6m deal.
The towering centre-half, 30, will undergo a medical with Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds today before completing his return to the South West.
Relegated Cardiff will pay an initial £4m up front, with add-ons and clauses totalling an extra £2m.
Flint only joined Boro from Bristol City 12 months ago for £7m and penned a four-year contract at The Riverside.
He featured 39 times for Tony Pulis in the Championship as the Teessiders narrowly missed out on promotion.
But despite arriving in the North East with a fearsome goalscoring record, he bagged just once and failed to impress the locals with his displays.
Now he has found himself a victim of new manager Jonathan Woodgate’s overhaul at Boro.
Reflecting recently on his first campaign up north, Flint admitted it had been “diabolical”.
The giant defender told : “Personally it was very disappointing – it was not up to my standards at all.
“I’m hoping to improve this season – I mean it can’t be hard to improve on last season because personally it was diabolical to be honest.
“I’d love to start scoring goals again. I only got one last season which pretty much tops off my disappointing season personally.”
Flint will become Warnock’s fourth signing of the summer window following the arrival of Joe Day (Newport, free), Curtis Nelson (Oxford United, free), Will Vaulks (Rotherham, £2.1m) and Aaron Bolger (Shamrock Rovers).
