Newcastle confirm Steve Bruce as new boss on three-year contract

NEWCASTLE UNITED have confirmed Steve Bruce as their new manager on an initial three-year contract.
The Magpies announced the ex-Sunderland boss had left Sheffield Wednesday after agreeing a £4m compensation fee with the Owls.
And the childhood Toon fan could not hide his delight after replacing Rafa Benitez in the dug-out.
Bruce said: "I’m delighted and incredibly proud to be appointed as head coach of Newcastle United.
"This is my boyhood club and it was my dad’s club, so this is a very special moment for me and my family.
"There is a huge challenge ahead of us, but it’s one that my staff and I are ready for.
"We’ll roll our sleeves up and we’ll be giving it everything from the off to ensure supporters have a successful team that they can be proud of.";
Bruce, 58, was born in Corbridge, Northumberland and raised in Wallsend.
He will be joined by coaches Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence at Newcastle and all three will now travel to China to meet up with the squad after today’s Premier League Asia Trophy clash with Wolves.
Neil Redfearn and Ben Dawson will be in charge of Toon for that clash.
Newcastle’s managing director Lee Charnley said: "Steve has a deep affection for Newcastle United and we are very pleased that a coach with his vast experience and connections to the club and city has joined us.
"Steve knows what this club means to supporters and to the region and he will put his heart and soul into leading our talented group of players with the full support of our staff.
"The hard work for Steve and his team starts immediately and we will be fully prepared for the challenge of a new Premier League season.

Bruce won a host of honours as captain of Manchester United during his playing days before embarking on his management career in 1998 at Sheffield United.
He has gone on to take charge at Huddersfield, Wigan, Crystal Palace, Birmingham, Sunderland, Hull, Aston Villa and he only joined Championship side Wednesday in January.
But the lure of his hometown team proved too strong to resist - although his arrival has been met with despair by the long-suffering Toon Army.
