Roma chief Baldini to meet old boss Levy to push through Alderweireld transfer from Spurs

ROMA official Franco Baldini will meet Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy today to talk over a move for Toby Alderweireld, according to reports.

The Italian, who used to work as sporting director at Spurs, is hoping to lower the £25million asking price for the defender.

Alderweireld, 30, has long been linked with a move away from Tottenham with Manchester United thought to be leading the chase for his services.

But Sky Sports report that Baldini is hoping to strike a deal for the Belgian with his former boss Levy as the pair are set to meet in London today.

Roma want to ask the Spurs chief whether the club would consider selling their star for a fee lower than the price set by his release clause, which expires on July 26.

The Serie A giants are reluctant to fork out £25m and hope to pay nearer the £20m mark, with Tottenham understandably looking for more.

Roma have already met with the Belgian’s agent Stijn Francis, who reportedly presented “high demands” for Alderweireld.

But both sides are believed to have come to an agreement over a £3.14m-a-year contract for the centre-back.

Although, with a transfer fee yet to be agreed, the former Ajax, Atletico Madrid and Southampton ace is on course to be on Spurs’ pre-season tour to Asia.
