And the club's board have backed their boss with a fresh deal ahead of the new season.

Stephen Bettis, the Blades' CEO, said: "On behalf of the Board, I'm delighted that the formalities have been concluded and Chris has been rewarded.

"Chris signing a new contract underpins everything we are attempting to do at Bramall Lane.

"He's been the catalyst for our success over the past few years, he is a driven individual and his focus since promotion was secured has been preparing the club for the Premier League."

WILD ONE

Wilder, a former Blades defender, took over at Bramall Lane in 2016 and led United to promotion from League One.

It took just two seasons to then leapfrog into the Prem with Wilder's side finishing runner-up to Norwich in the Championship.

The former Northampton Town boss has already begun strengthening his squad ahead of the new season.
