Liverpool legend Dirk Kuyt ‘close to buying League One club’ that could be cash-stricken Bolton, according to sensational reports on Dutch TV
LIVERPOOL legend Dirk Kuyt is close to taking over a League One side – and it could be crisis club Bolton, according to sensational claims on Dutch telly.
Dutch football agent Rob Jansen revealed he and a number of former stars he represented – including Kuyt – have a dream of co-owning a side together.
Kuyt, 38, retired from football last year following spells at Fenerbahce and Feyenoord after leaving Liverpool.
Jansen, speaking on , said: “It is a long-held wish to buy a club together with the number of players and former players for whom I am doing business.
“I and the players have a Utopian image of how that club should be led and what it takes to achieve the highest level. I am really looking forward to this adventure.
“I think it is very likely that it will succeed.”
Jansen would not reveal the name of the club but reports claim it is in League One.
Dutch media believe it likely to be Bolton.
The cash-stricken club, who were relegated from the Championship last season, insist they are on the verge of being taken over.
“Very likely to succeed”
The Trotters went into administration at the end of last season after financial problems derailed the club.
They still owe more than £1million to HM Revenue and Customs.
But Bolton’s joint administrator urged fans to stay patient as they await news of a takeover.
He said: “I want to keep Bolton fans up to speed with the process in terms of revealing the preferred bidder for the club as I’m aware of the uncertainty of the situation as far as supporters are concerned.
“We are very close to finalising the Heads of Terms agreement and are working towards a completion date of next week.
“But, as everybody must be aware, this is a hugely important deal in the history of the club and it is vital that nothing is hurried or overlooked.
“Lawyers from all sides are fine-tuning the agreement and I would expect to be able to make a fuller statement in the very near future.
“Until then, supporters can rest assured we are doing everything in our power to ensure the future of Bolton Wanderers is secured.”
