Arsenal legend Podolski shares picture from hospital with bandage round head after ear surgery
LUKAS PODOLSKI'S comeback to the Vissel Kobe side has been delayed after the Arsenal icon underwent an ear operation.
The 34-year-old was hospitalised in Japan with flu earlier this month after suffering from a heavy viral influenza.
And he has now had surgery on his ear in Cologne, with the forward advised to rest and recover before stepping back onto the pitch.
Podolski - who has a tattoo of Cologne's badge on his arm - had two separate spells at the German side, while he recently opened his second kebab shop in the city.
Issuing an update on his health to his followers on social media, the 2014 World Cup winner thanked the doctors for the successful surgery as he stated he hopes to be back soon.
Podolski said: "Hey everyone, I just wanted to give you a brief update.
"I’ve successfully concluded an operation and now the recovery will take time.
"I hope to be better soon! Don’t forget, I am always a fighter!
"Thanks to the amazing team around doctor Simon Preuss. Greetings - Your Lukas."
Podolski has chipped in with two goals and two assists in eight games in the Japanese top-flight this season.
He has been linked with a move to Mexico next year when his contract at Vissel Kobe expires in January.
