Stoke legend Jon Walters throws hat in ring to replace Eden Hazard at Chelsea after ‘producing in past’… when he scored two own goals and missed a pen against them

JON WALTERS is prepared to pull on a Chelsea jersey and replace Eden Hazard for real - six years on from his absolute shocker against the Blues when playing for Stoke City.

On a fateful day in January 2013, the Irish forward netted two own goals and missed a penalty.

It helped Chelsea to a 4-0 win in the Potteries, ending Stoke's 17-game unbeaten run at home in the league.

With Hazard pulling on his Real Madrid jersey for the first time on Thursday evening, Walters threw his hat in the ring to replace him.

He tweeted: "Now that Hazard has left, if you want goals from someone who has produced for you in the past, Chelsea...

"I could be temped #2in0."

Walters became only the fourth player in Premier League history to score two own goals in one game with the headed efforts.

The first came on the verge of half-time, Walters storming into his own area to clear a cross - only to bury his header in the top corner.

The Irishman compounded his error by failing to watch a Juan Mata corner onto his head, diverting it past Asmir Begovic for 2-0.

Goals from Frank Lampard and Madrid newboy Hazard sealed the points, but there was still time for Walters to win a spot-kick... which he blasted against the crossbar.

The retired striker wouldn't get his revenge, either, as in 15 outings against the Blues he only notched twice, including a 1-1 draw at Bet365 Stadium in 2011.

Hazard, meanwhile, was treated to a hero's reception at the Bernabeu after completing his £150million move from Chelsea.
