It is thought PSG have moved ahead of Manchester United in the race for De Ligt and are now the favourites to land the Ajax captain, 19.

Kaveh Solhekol tweeted: "Sky Italy: PSG now favourites to sign Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt. Agent Mino Raiola due in Paris for talks. Barcelona other option.

"Will be deal of the summer (with Hazard to Real Madrid)."

De Ligt is one of the most in-demand players in world football right now after his fine season with the Dutch side.

In his first year as captain, he led the club to the domestic double and the Champions League semi-finals.

But like his compatriot and close pal Frenkie de Jong who has joined Barcelona, De Ligt is expected to be prised away from his boyhood club.

At one point it looked as though De Ligt would follow his friend to the Nou Camp before United and rivals Manchester City emerged as potential suitors.

LAST RAI OF HOPE

Both clubs are in need of a new centre-back this summer - United to sure up the defence to get back into the Champions League and City to replace Vincent Kompany.

Harry Maguire is also a target for both clubs but Leicester are holding out for a huge transfer fee, potentially as much as the £75million Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk.

But now they could miss out on De Ligt.

Super agent Raiola - who had his three-month ban suspended by the Court of Arbitration for Sport - is keen to get a deal over the line.

PSG are understood to have offered the centre-back an eye-watering £260,000 per week to join and believe an offer of £80m would be enough to out-bid any other club.

Raiola has a good relationship with PSG's sporting director Leonardo, which could prove to be the difference in negotiations.

De Ligt himself has refused to rule out anyone - meaning a Premier League switch is still on the cards - but told his suitors to wait until he finishes his holidays in a few weeks to hear his decision.

He said: "I don't know. Now I am going on vacation and I just take a rest, relax and then I'll see.

"When you rest, you have enough time to think."
