Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka is on the verge of joining Inter Milan according to sources within the Swiss camp at the Nations League

INTER MILAN have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Granit Xhaka as they look to snare him away from Arsenal.

The 26-year-old has been a key player for the Gunners since arriving from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2016, but he has been often criticised for making mistakes.

It was reported in April that Inter had identified a number of Premier League stars as they eye up a first Serie A title since 2010.

As well as Xhaka, Christian Eriksen, Ilkay Gundogan and Matteo Darmian were being monitored by the Italian giants.

According to , discussions between Xhaka and Inter have accelerated following the arrival of Antonio Conte.

The ex-Chelsea boss is eyeing a massive squad after replacing Luciano Spalletti at the San Siro.

It has been claimed that they asked Xhaka about the story in Portugal as he prepares for Switzerland's Nations League semi-final clash against the Euro 2016 winners.

They state the ex-Basel star refused to deny the rumour - adding to the speculation he could soon be departing the Emirates.

However it remains unlikely that Xhaka will be allowed to leave considering Aaron Ramsey has run his contract down at Arsenal.

And the North London side could be set to lose Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with the striker attracting interest from China.
