WHAT A MES

Arsenal so desperate to offload Ozil they are prepared to subsidise £350k-a-week paypacket

ARSENAL are so desperate to get rid of Mesut Ozil, they are reportedly willing to pay a portion of his £350,000-a-week wages at his next club.

Missing out on Champions League football has ripped a huge hole in Unai Emery's plans and selling the German playmaker is one way they hope to raise funds.

However, report that there is such little hope of a club coming in to sign Ozil, the Gunners are settling for subsidising his salary.

Arsenal gave the 30-year-old a new contract in February 2018, worth £350,000-a-week.

Since then his form has declined massively, culminating in him contributing just two assists in the league in 2018/19.

And Ozil isn't the only underperforming star Emery wants to shift in the summer, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Shkodran Mustafi also named as potential departees.

Adding those names to Aaron Ramsey, Petr Cech and Danny Welbeck, Arsenal are targeting a reduction of £50million from their wage bill by the new season.

That is necessary after the reported £90m hit that came with losing the Europa League final to Chelsea on Wednesday.

While the financial dent will have an impact on outgoings, it is demanding huge changes to their plans for signing players as well.

Planned moves for Wilfried Zaha and James Maddison are being binned thanks to fees said to be topping £140m for the duo.

RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano is also off the agenda due to his desire to play in the Champions League.

As a result, Bournemouth star Ryan Fraser and Getafe defender Djene Dakonam are being touted as more realistic signings, the Cherriers winger available for closer to £30m.
