Man Utd fans beg David Beckham to replace Alexis Sanchez after starring in 1999 reunion game
Golden Balls rolled back the years against Bayern Munich and now has as many goals as the Chilean flop at Old Trafford this season
DAVID BECKHAM rolled back the years at Old Trafford yesterday – and it left Manchester United fans begging for him to replace Alexis Sanchez.
Despite being 44, Golden Balls showed he still possessed his magic touch as he joined his fellow legends in an anniversary match against Bayern Munich to celebrate their memorable treble winning campaign in 1999.
Even though it was exactly 20 years since that famous night in Barcelona, the Stretford End loved seeing the old band back together under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Twitter was gushing with praise as Beckham starred again in the No.7 shirt during the 5-0 victory for the Red Devils.
And after he capped his display with a goal in the trouncing, many claimed his display was better than anything produced by the Chilean who currently occupies that jersey.
Below you can see the best Becks tweets from these United fans.
One fan wrote: “At the age of 44, this guy done more than our current no 7 did this whole season, it’s a shame we don’t get any number 7s like this anymore.”
Sanchez, who bags £500k-a-week at United, has failed miserably since his arrival from Arsenal in January 2018.
He has bagged just twice all season with only one of those coming at the Theatre of Dreams – a point that did not go unnoticed by United supporters.
A fan tweeted: “Goals at Old Trafford this season. Beckham 1 in 1 game as our no. 7 Sanchez… Don’t even want to go there”
Another said: “David Beckham basically showed Alexis Sanchez how special you have to be in the iconic #7.”
While those thoughts were also echoed by another supporter: “Beckham did more today then Sanchez has done all season.”
And that led to several tweets directed at United’s Twitter account asking for the former England captain’s return.
One pleaded: “Please Beckham come and replace Sanchez and get paid 500k per week even if you have to play only for 45mins , Seeing you in the pitch will motivate other players and your free kick is like penalty shoot.”
Another asked: “Can we swap Sanchez with Beckham??”
While another added: “I’d trade Sanchez. Darmian. Young. Lingaard. Lukkaku All for the chance to see Beckham play on Utd’s right hand side. Even if it’s 15 minutes at the end of a game. Come back.”
Beckham is not the only one to have as many goals at Old Trafford this season as Sanchez after the game yesterday.
United boss Solskjaer, who scored the dramatic winner against Bayern in 1999, also showed he has lost none of his killer instinct in front of goal when breaking the deadlock.
Dwight Yorke grabbed the second before Nicky Butt and Louis Saha made it four before Beckham put the icing on the cake late on.
