Man Utd ‘rule out’ move for De Ligt as Ajax star’s transfer saga takes another twist
Solskjaer has been linked with a move for the defender but reports claim United are being used to get more out of Barca
MANCHESTER UNITED have ruled out a move for Matthijs De Ligt as the Ajax star's transfer saga takes another twist, according to reports.
Sky Sports News are claiming their sources have learned United are no longer in the running for the sought-after defender.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been linked with a move for De Ligt, 19, for weeks - but reports claim United are simply being used to get more money out of Barcelona.
The La Liga champions are favourites to sign the Dutch giant this summer despite competition from a host of European giants.
Premier League title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City have also been linked with a summer swoop for De Ligt.
Earlier this summer, reports in Europe claimed De Ligt had already agreed to join Barcelona.
BARC-ING MAD
But Man Utd came screaming back to the fore, desperate to poach the defender - one of the hottest properties in world football.
On Friday, it was claimed United had offered De Ligt a massive £236,000-a-week contract to lure him to Old Trafford.
The club believed that was more than Barcelona would be willing to spend in terms of wages - at £12.3million per year.
Red Devils fans were also given hope that De Ligt himself wanted to head to Old Trafford.

The £65m-rated star claimed he wanted to be the "poster boy" for the club's rebuild, according to the Telegraph.
And fans were thrilled further after he was seen to like an Instagram post from former United legend Rio Ferdinand.
So the latest revelation will come as a massive blow for supporters, who are itching to see their club finally sign a top defender after years of back-four woes.
