Man Utd in talks with Real Betis over 22-year-old left-back Junior Firpo
Red Devils are putting their summer transfer plans in place and they are targeting a deal for La Liga defender
MANCHESTER UNITED are in talks over a deal to sign Real Betis left-back Junior Firpo, according to reports in Spain.
Ole Gunnar Solskajer is planning a major overhaul of his squad this summer after his side’s disappointing Premier League campaign saw them finish sixth.
Solskjaer, 46, is looking to bring in younger players and as SunSport revealed this week, among them are Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Swansea winger Dan James.
United’s defensive shortcomings have been well documented and the Norwegian manager is looking to rectify this.
And according to , Firpo could well be on his way out of Betis.
The report suggests United have been in talks to sign the defender and are willing to pay as much as £26.4million to sign him.
Despite his supposed chequered injury record, Firpo has also attracted significant interest from Real Madrid.
Firpo – who will be in action at the European Under-21 Championships next month – is contracted with Betis until 2023.
Meanwhile, Solskjaer hasn’t hidden his desire to spend in the summer, although it is unclear what his budget will be.
He said: “We’re going to sit down and go through all the plans.
“And we’ll be ready when 1 July comes. There will be no excuses.”
