Solskjaer, 46, is looking to bring in younger players and as SunSport revealed this week, among them are Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Swansea winger Dan James.

United's defensive shortcomings have been well documented and the Norwegian manager is looking to rectify this.

And according to , Firpo could well be on his way out of Betis.

The report suggests United have been in talks to sign the defender and are willing to pay as much as £26.4million to sign him.

Despite his supposed chequered injury record, Firpo has also attracted significant interest from Real Madrid.

Firpo - who will be in action at the European Under-21 Championships next month - is contracted with Betis until 2023.

Meanwhile, Solskjaer hasn't hidden his desire to spend in the summer, although it is unclear what his budget will be.

He said: "We’re going to sit down and go through all the plans.

“And we’ll be ready when 1 July comes. There will be no excuses."
