Liverpool boost as Roberto Firmino resumes training ahead of Champions League final against Spurs

Brazilian forward worked up a sweat alongside the first team during the warm-weather training camp in Marbella, Spain

ROBERTO FIRMINO handed Liverpool a huge boost when he returned to training with the first team on Tuesday.

The Brazilian striker is facing a race against time to get fit for the Champions League final against Tottenham on June 1.

Firmino stepped up his rehabilitation from a thigh injury as he trained alongside the his team-mates in Marbella.

Jurgen Klopp's side are enjoying a warm-weather training camp in Spain ahead of the showdown with Spurs.

The Reds have been without Firmino since the 3-0 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League on May 1.

He missed Liverpool's last three Premier League games and the second leg comeback win over the La Liga champions.

But the Brazilian could be in contention to face Spurs after the club posted an update of his injury to their website.

It read: "The Brazilian took part in the Reds' first session of their Marbella training camp on Tuesday morning as he works his way back to full fitness.

"Firmino has been working the club's medical staff on his rehabilitation from the issue.

"His reintroduction into full team training will be carefully managed under their supervision, with specialised programmes planned over the coming days."

Firmino has scored 16 goals and made seven assists for the Merseyside giants this season.

Klopp admitted after 2-0 win over Wolves on the final game of the season that he is confident he will return in time.

The German boss said: "We have time before the final and that should be enough."
