Man Utd player of the year Luke Shaw left out of England squad ‘because he pulled out of Euro qualifiers vs Czech Republic and Montenegro’
The left-back has been omitted despite scooping the big prize at United's end of season awards
LUKE SHAW has reportedly been left out of England's Nations League squad because he pulled out of the Euro qualifiers with Montenegro and Czech Republic.
The 23-year-old bagged the Man Utd player-of-the-year award but it was still not enough to force his way into Gareth Southgate's plans.
Leicester's Ben Chilwell and Tottenham's Danny Rose are the left-backs of choice and Southgate reacted bluntly when asked whether omitting Shaw was tough.
He said: "No, I think Ben Chilwell and Danny Rose have been excellent, so at the moment they're ahead [of Shaw] and they've played particularly well for us."
But the England boss did not stop there and seemed to aim a sly dig at the former Southampton man who was criticised in March for pulling out of England's Euro 2020 qualifiers against Montenegro and Czech Republic.
Southgate said: "They've been completely committed to the England shirt over the last period of time.
"They're two very good players so there's high competition for places in lots of positions, but one in particular we're blessed with really good options."

Shaw featured 40 times during a disappointing campaign for United last season and scooped the player-of-the-year at a ceremony where cricket legend Geoffrey Boycott slammed the whole team.
England face Netherlands in the Nations League semi-final on June 6 in Portugal.
The Three-Lions are looking to win the inaugural competition but face fitness concerns over some of their biggest stars.
